Kodak Pro Image 100

Before we get this going, full disclosure: This is not my first time using this film. The first 2 rolls I tried out got screwed up during development. I feel like that means they don’t count. So let’s pretend this is the first time I’ve used this film.

For those not in the know, Kodak Pro Image 100 has been available in various parts of the world for a while, but it has just recently released here in the US. I guess it is intended to fit somewhere between the pro films (think Ektar and Portra) and the consumer line (Ultramax, Gold, etc). Basically, a “pro” film for those looking to save some cheddar.

The colors are more saturated than Portra, but not quite as much as Ektar. I feel like every review of this film says that, but whatever, it’s the truth. It has that whole warm Kodak vibe. I especially like the way it handles reds. The thing that surprised me most was how fine the grain was for a film at this price point. It’s not invisible or anything, but it doesn’t get in the way of the image at all.

I’m not sure that this will completely replace my beloved Fuji C200 as my go to less expensive film, but I’ll definitely reach for it when I’m looking for those warmer Kodak colors. Especially in that golden hour light. It’s a really great film. You can’t go wrong with it if you’re looking for those Kodak colors in a 100 speed film.
